ARISS contact scheduled for students in Denzlingen, Germany
Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) has received schedule confirmation for an ARISS radio contact with astronauts. ARISS is the group that puts together special amateur radio contacts between students around the globe and crew members with ham radio licenses on the International Space Station (ISS).
This will be a direct contact via amateur radio. Students at Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen, Denzlingen, Germany AND Goethe-Gymnasium, Freiburg, Germany will ask questions to astronaut Matthias Maurer, amateur radio call sign KI5KF.
Local Covid-19 protocols are adhered to as applicable for each ARISS contact.
Amateur radio station DLØFHA will operate the contact.
The downlink frequency for this contact is 145.800 MHZ and may be heard by listeners that are within the ISS-footprint.
The ARISS radio contact is scheduled for Tue 2022-02-22 10:05:11 UTC Tuesday February 22, 2022 at 11.05 CEWT (10.05 UTC).
School Information:
Nachfolgend finden Sie die Vorstellung der beiden Schulen Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen und Goethe-Gymnasium Freiburg, welche voraussichtlich im Februar 2022 gemeinsam einen ARISS Schulkontakt mit Matthias Maurer durchführen werden. Der Schulkontakt wird direkt vom Campus des Erasmus-Gymnasiums in Denzlingen durchgeführt. Die teilnehmenden Schüler/-innen und Lehrer/-innen des Goethe-Gymnasiums werden während des Kontaktes vor Ort in Denzlingen sein.
Das Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen ist ein allgemeinbildendes Gymnasium in der Gemeinde Denzlingen, wenige Kilometer nördlich von Freiburg. Denzlingen hat etwa 13000 Einwohner. Die Schule wird aber auch von Kindern der umliegenden Dörfer besucht. Mit ca. 500 Schülern ist sie eine verhältnismäßig kleine Schule. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler können zwischen einem sprachlichen, einem naturwissenschaftlichen und – seit kurzem – einem künstlerischen Profil wählen. Etwa 50 Schülerinnen und Schüler erreichen jedes Jahr die allgemeine Hochschulreife in der 12. Klasse. Es gibt eine große Auswahl an AGs, wie z. B. Schulorchester, Experimentier-AG, Nachhaltigkeits-AG usw. Schulleiterin ist seit 2016 Frau Christel Bohlen.
Während die Schülerinnen und Schüler des sprachlichen Profils Italienisch als dritte Fremdsprache erlernen, besuchen die Naturwissenschaftler das Fach „Naturwissenschaft und Technik“. In diesem Unterricht wurde Schülerinnen und Schülern einer 9. Klasse (inzwischen: 10. Klasse) das ARISS-Projekt vorbereitet und mit einer Unterrichtseinheit zum Thema „Geschichte der Raumfahrt“ untermauert.
Die Schule wurde im Jahr 1971 gegründet und feiert daher in diesem Jahr ihr 50jähriges Bestehen. Sie wurde nach dem Humanisten Erasmus von Rotterdam benannt. Das Leitbild der Schule lautet „gebildet – weltoffen – mitmenschlich“. Es gibt Austauschprogramme mit Frankreich, Italien, USA und Australien.
Das Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen befindet sich auf einem sehr weitläufigen Campus, den es sich mit der Ruth-Cohn-Schule, einer Verbundschule, teilt. Zum Campus gehören auch umfangreiche Sportanlagen.
Nahe der Altstadt in Freiburg gelegen ist das Goethe-Gymnasium eine typische Innenstadtschule mit einem großen Einzugsgebiet. "Mitten in der Stadt - nahe am Menschen", so lautet unser Motto. Die etwa 650 Schülerinnen und Schüler kommen aus allen Stadtteilen Freiburgs und weit darüber hinaus. Die Schülerschaft besteht aus Mädchen und Jungen zu annähernd gleichen Teilen.
Den etwa 65 Lehrkräften ist das Miteinander sehr wichtig. Das gut 130 Jahre alte Gebäude bietet dafür den schönen Rahmen, der mit seiner überschaubaren Größe diesen pädagogischen Ansatz gut unterstützt. Die Schülerinnen und Schüler können zwischen einem sprachlichen und einem naturwissenschaftlich-technischen Profil wählen. Etwa 70 Schülerinnen und Schüler erreichen jährlich die allgemeine Hochschulreife in der 12. Klasse.
Unsere Schule zeichnet sich durch eine große Vielfalt aus. Junge Menschen unterschiedlichster Herkunft finden hier einen Lernort, in dem Pluralität, Interkulturalität und Diversität ganz alltäglich gelebt werden. Die Schule hat eine Streicherklasse in der alle Schülerinnen und Schüler ein Streichinstrument erlernen und eine Singklasse. Das Goethe-Gymnasium bietet dazu eine große Auswahl an Arbeitsgemeinschaften an: Schulorchester, Nachhaltigkeit, Junior Ingenieur Akademie, Theater, Schach, Ski-Fahren, ...
Die beteiligten Schüler sind in der 12. Klasse des Gymnasiums und haben den Physikkurs als Schwerpunktfach gewählt. Dieser Physikkurs deckt viele Aspekte von MINT ab, z. B. werden elektromagnetische Wellen, mathematische Werkzeuge und technische Anwendungen behandelt. Die 9 weiblichen und 14 männlichen Schüler sind 17 Jahre alt, einige sind bereits 18 Jahre alt.

Below you will find the presentation of the two schools Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen and Goethe-Gymnasium Freiburg, which are expected to jointly conduct an ARISS school contact with Matthias Maurer in February 2022. The school contact will be carried out directly from the premises of the Erasmus-Gymnasium in Denzlingen. The participating students and teachers of the Goethe-Gymnasium will be on site in Denzlingen during the contact.
The Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen is a highschool with general education in the community of Denzlingen only a few kilometers north of Freiburg. Denzlingen has got about 13000 citizens. However, the school is also attended by children from the surrounding villages. With about 500 students, it is a relatively small school. The students can choose between profiles specializing on languages, natural sciences and – only recently – fine arts. About 50 students graduate evey year with „Abitur“ (the German highschool diploma qualifying for university) in 12th grade. There is a variety of clubs such as an orchestra club, an experimental club, a sustainability club, and so on. Since 2016 Mrs. Christel Bohlen has been headmaster of the school.
While the students of the language profile learn Italian as a third foreign language, the science students attend lessons in „applied science and technology“. In this class, 9th grade students (meanwhile: 10th graders) have prepared the ARISS-project and have deepened their knowledge in a special unit about „history of astronautics“
The school was founded in 1971. Thus it is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It was named after the humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam. The school’s motto is „gebildet – weltoffen – mitmenschlich“ (translating to „educated – cosmopolitan – caring“. There are exchange programs with France, Italy, the US and Australia.
The Erasmus-Gymnasium Denzlingen is located in a widespread campus sharing it with Ruth-Cohn-Schule, a consolidated school. The campus also includes extensive sport facilities.
Located close to the old town in Freiburg, the Goethe-Gymnasium is a typical inner city school with a large catchment area. "In the middle of the city - close to the people" is our motto. The approximately 650 students come from all parts of Freiburg and far beyond. The student body consists of girls and boys in almost equal numbers.
Togetherness is very important to the approximately 65 teachers. The 130-year-old building provides a beautiful setting for this, and its manageable size supports this pedagogical approach well. The students can choose between a language and a scientific-technical profile. Each year, about 70 students achieve the general university entrance qualification in the 12th grade.
Our school is characterized by its great diversity. Young people from a wide variety of backgrounds find here a place of learning where plurality, interculturality and diversity are lived out on a daily basis. The school has a string class in which all students learn a string instrument and a singing class. The Goethe-Gymnasium also offers a wide range of study groups: School Orchestra, Sustainability, Junior Engineer Academy, Theater, Chess, Skiing, …
The involved students are in the 12th grade of the high school and have chosen the physics course as a basic focus. This physics course covers many aspects of STEM, e.g. electromagnetic waves, mathematical tools and technical applications are treated. The 9 female and 14 male students are 17 years old, some are already 18 years old.
