ARISS SSTV Transmissions
... ARISS will be supporting SSTV transmissions worldwide in memory of cosmonauts Alexei Leonov, Valery Bykovsky and Sigmund Jaehn. The transmissions are scheduled from December 28, 2019, starting at 11:00 UTC, until January 1, 2020 at 18:20 UTC when the system is scheduled for shutdown. Transmissions will be on the standard frequency of 145.800 MHz and in the PD 120 format. The Polish ARISS Team prepared an award for participants to this SSTV experiment. ... For nearly as long as there has been radio, there have been antennas trained on the sky, looking at the universe in a different light than traditional astronomy. Radio astronomers have used their sensitive equipment to study the Sun, the planets, distant galaxies, and strange objects from the very edge of the universe, like pulsars and quasars. Even the earliest moments of the universe have been explored, a portrait in microwave radiation of the remnants of the Big Bang. And yet with all these observations, there’s a substantial slice of the radio spectrum that remains largely a mystery to radio astronomers. Thanks to our planet’s ionosphere, most of the signals below 30 MHz aren’t observable by ground-based radio telescopes. But now, thanks to an opportunity afforded by China’s ambitious lunar exploration program, humanity is now listening to more of what the universe is saying, and it’s doing so from a new vantage point: the far side of the moon. A Ham's Night Before Christmas
... Need a little more Christmas cheer in the hamshack ? Revisit this ham radio Christmas classic, A Ham's Night Before Christmas . I wrote this poem, adapted from the famous poem A Visit from St. Nicholas (but more commonly called T'was The Night Before Christmas) by Clement Clarke Moore, way back in 1996, so the poem almost now qualifies for QCWA . Later I recorded it as audio, added music, and finally produced a video.... and then a High Def video. You can find the whole story here. The poem text, audio (no music) and audio with music are all freely available for you to read or play on the air (choose the 'no music' version to play on the air, but note that it runs a little over 3 minutes, so watch your repeater timer! ).
